We are headed further west to the town of Jaisalmer in the Thar desert. I was just listening to 'At the End of the Day," by Yonder and I started to think about where I consider my home to be. I never considered nor referred to Mpls as my home despite living there for 6 years. Perhaps it was because I spent so much time traveling to other places for work or because I never considered it to be a place where I wanted to stay. All of this makes me wonder how many other people feel so adrift. I can't help but wonder where or how I will finally feel settled and 'at home' somewhere.

In more humorous news our driver Sanjey, as he often does, launched into a rather lengthy story today. Though he usually demonstrates a more than adequate grasp of English I found that this time I couldn't understand a word he was saying. Thankfully Brian was there to divide Sanjey's attention or else I might have lost it. Then at the very end, thinking we understood what he was saying he completed his story by smiling and uttering the words, "Face like a monkey," as he moved his hand in front of his face in a circular motion.

Being that we are only about 60 km (less than 30 miles) from the border with Pakistan there is a substantial Indian military presence out here in the desert. With a history of war since the partition in 1947 and a bunch of nukes trained on one another many border regions are like this. I hear that the town of Srinangar in Kashmir (Far Northern India is like a military base). So instead of the occasional camel we see tanks and fighter jets on patrol.
