Earlier start after restless sleep by both – must have been the dreams of those armed guards!! the night before! And of course, some nerves with wondering if my online reservations and payment for minivan travel to Quepos would really happen!  The front desk folk however realized our concern when van was late and contacted them without us even asking.  It was a different way for us to travel but gave us  another adventure – picking up 3 others took us deeper into San Jose and also a chance to really test some Spanish as I tried to understand what was going on with the young German couple sitting behind us.  She was in tears!  I guessed from some words that her luggage had been lost and eventually, when the driver explained in Spanish why we were stopping at a Super Mercado, yes, that was what happened.  It was about a 3 hour drive to our Arenas Del Mar – a drive that gave us a good feel for the countryside.

Upon arrival, we found out that the main restaurant was closed for renovations.  In hindsight, it was a good lesson in learning about setting expectations that turn out to be different than reality.  And really, is it so terrible to have to eat amazing meals at the beach dining room rather than at the top of the cliff?  Being tired and hungry had only added to the disappointment.  While our room was being prepared, we were served a great lunch, served by an awesome "Minor" yup, that's his name – who did everything possible to ensure that all would be well.

A wee siesta, a swim in heavenly pool, another great meal and guess who fell asleep at 8 p.m.?
