Buzios proved to be a bit of an unexpected highlight. When I left Rio I felt a little like I was killing time until my flight home but I ended up having a great week. I also really appreciated having a bit of time to myself before returning to England.
Buzios is a peninsula 200km east of Rio containing 25 great beaches. I was staying at a lovely little pousada (guesthouse) near Tartaruga beach. The pousada was a very chilled out place with hammocks and sunloungers set amidst a leafy compound. And I met some really lovely people there.
I arrived early Saturday evening and immediately met my room-mate, an Argentinian girl Fernanda. We went to dinner in town and were later joined by another Argentinian from our hostel, Sebastian. The centre of Buzios is really pretty, especially at night. It is made up of cobbled streets full of bars, restaurants, shops and clubs, although sadly a Mcdonalds has also managed to creep in!
The next day we got some new guests - a New Zealander called Eve, an American called Alex and another Argentinian called Cesar. Later in the week we were also joined by the French Laurent, some Swedes Henrique and Olga and a couple of Danish girls. The group of us hung out together every night working our way around the towns many restaurants and bars.
My days were spent lying on some of the beaches in and around Buzios, often accompanied by Eve. The beaches were beautiful. Lovely warm seas, crystal clear water, pure white sand. It was a lovely relaxing end to my time in South America. All that was left for me to do now was to return to Rio, indulge in some last minute retail therapy and catch my flight back to good old London town. I guess I'll see you there...
