We had a good night's rest, we awoke about 6am so decided maybe a good idea to get up and have an early breakfast.
Met with Mark our tour manager and other members in our group and enjoyed sharing experiences of everyone's first day in Sydney. The sun is shining and we were all looking forward to the day ahead.
The orientation tour lasted about 3 hours with several photo stops. Our driver, Marcus, was also our local guide a lovely guy with a great personality and obviously passionate about his 'little city" as he called it.
Lots of different architecture from old houses built by the convicts to modern high rise blocks, all mingling together to give an interesting and diverse appeal to the city.
We passed locations more familiar in name to us Paddington, Kings Cross, Hyde Park & Haymarket and then those not so familiar  Woolloomooloo for one !
Our first photo stop not far from the Botanical Gardens gave us a fantastic view of Sydney Harbour with those 2 iconic structures, The Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House.
Continuing through The Rocks area with it!s important heritage sites, museums, galleries and cafes onto Rose Bay, Double Bay, where properties are owned by the rich and famous, all with amazing views of that famous harbour.
We had several photo stops along the way including South Head point with great rock cliffs.
Next stop Bondi Beach, time for a cold beer but no time for surfing (My surfing is usually via Google)
We arrived back around midday, as we still have another day to explore Sydney we took ourselves down to Circular Quay and took the 30 minute ferry journey to Manly, we had been told there was an amazing beach, lots of restaurants and cafes and a great atmosphere.
We were lucky to get a seat on the outer deck so had good views of the Harbour. The sea was quite calm but one of the crew did warn us that we might encounter some spray as we headed into open water ! Well it was hardly a spray, a lot of shrieks and laughter as we all got drenched made it a memorable journey but we soon dried off in the warm sunshine.
With open fronted restaurants all along the wharf, we spent an enjoyable time watching the world, the sea birds and people at the same time enjoying lunch.
We walked to the main beach but was actually a little disappointed, probably because a long stretch of the beach still had lots of seaweed along the waters edge from recent storms, the sun was now hiding behind the clouds and very few people on the beach with just a few surfers.
We took the ferry back, by now it was becoming quite humid and misty but still managed to get some lovely photos of the Opera House before returning to the hotel for a well needed rest.
David doing well to be doing so much walking, but definitely prefers the less crowded areas.
Tomorrow afternoon we board the ship, we have another couple of days before setting sail so no doubt more interesting sites to be seen.
Signing off now. Sleep Tight zzzzzzzz
