This remarkable island is the remnant of the rim of a volcanic caldera, mush of which was blasted away by a huge eruption in 1600 BC. The bay enclosed by the crescent is nearly 1300 feet deep. We visited villages located on the caldera rim, about, 1000 feet above the water. Some of our group ascended on donkeys. The rest of us took the cable car. The gleaming white houses are typical of the Greek Islands.
The ship doesn't have internet so we have to go into the small town to an internet cafe. But today is Wed and everything is closed for siesta. So I'll send the blogs out as I can.
