Overnight at the Santa Maria convent, while the gardens were lovely, I can't say I felt completely at home living with the nuns. However, it was by far the best value in town, clean rooms, nice bathroom and quite quiet.

It was back to driving the spaghetti roads.  An hour or so later I was in the town of Cancar and following a pretty young woman up a hill. Dirt steps were cut into the steep slope using rounds of Bamboo to keep them in line. Up and up we went, by the transmission tower and almost beyond its peak to a ridge crest where on the other side you see almost a dozen spider web rice fields.

So beautiful and so high up the people working the field below looked like ants to be caught by the big spider that surely was lurking nearby. Each web belongs to a village and each wedge to a family within the village - all so organized and making for an original and beautiful site.

Back down the hill a group of school boys gathered to talk to me - friendly little faces and all in fifth grade but for a little shy boy in the first grade who hid behind the bigger boys.  Drying in the sun around us was coffee and cloves and for all the motor bikes plastic bottles full of gasoline are for sale.
