George Verney's day :)

Having lived in Peru for 2 1/2 months now, I have become accustomed to being served up 'vegetarian' chicken sandwhiches, ham pasties and turkey soup. (Obviously, I didn't eat any of the above, but that's not the point.)

Today, however, the limits of my vegetarian tolerance were pushed to the max.

We were served 'vegetable' soup at a local restaurant on the way to Ausangate. I was suspicious to start with, there were big black chunks of a meaty-looking something. They turned out to be freeze-dried potatoes (yummy!). And then it happened. Happily before I got the chance  to take a mouthful... Anna discovered a tube in her soup. Specifically a sheep's intestinal tube. Apparently it is used to add flavour, however the only flavour I imagine it adds is sheep intestine flavour.

Good God, and I thought Europeans had a hazy definition of vegetarianism!

Lots of love, Bethers xxxxx

Yo soy vegetariana, y aquí en Perú no entienden vegetarianismo... muchas veces he recibido carne como ´bocadillo vegetariano´... Pero hoy fue mucho peor. Recibí el intestino de un oveja en mi sopa. Horroroso.

Nunca jamás voy a comer sopa en mi vida!

I fear you will soon be reduced to (chocolate) leaves and berries soon.
