Waking early we packed quickly and drove over to Haight Street for breakfast. Haight street was the area of San Fransisco that was more 'me', all old houses and weird shops that sell strange stuff and old records and book. The streets are covered in street art and, more importantly, there are no tourists. There are hardly any people at all in fact. The shops all open at around midday so everyone is very relaxed. Now I could live there! I loved it and wished I had a lot more money to buy books and records. We both treated ourself to a record each, (myself a Beatles one I didn't have and Dan a Beach Boys one he didn't have - man we're cool)

We drove over the Golden Gate bridge and headed away from the sea towards Yosemite. (accidental rhyme).

There was a lot of traffic and a lot of heat for the first couple of hours and I irritated Dan by pleading for toilet breaks every 45 minutes, but eventually we got off the freeway and coasted through all the beautiful hills and vineyards.

As the sun set we started to wind slowly up the hills with a strong scent of pine jammed into our nostrils. It became clear that the roads were to be somewhat hazardous, sharp turns on the edge of long drops without any barriers apart from the occasional spattering on the most crumbly corners. I demanded slow driving de to fear that we would PLUNGE TO OUR DEATHS!

The sun set over the mountains and it was beautiful, then we realised that we were still on the road of death for another two and a half hours in complete darkness. I was desperate for the toilet but there was no way I was going for a wild wee out there as a bear was certain to sneak up behind me and eat my bottom. There were also lots of empty cars by the side of the road.... Occupants definitely eaten by bears... Or zombies.

We arrived at the lodge just before the reception and the market next door closed. We checked in, got some microwave meals from the market and headed to our room. The room is awesome, it is huge with a private balcony but the best bit, it'a like stepping into 1985 with the trendy decor, it's brilliant. I feel like I'm in Secret of my Sucess when everyone is room hopping.

We relaxed with our weird microwave meals and watched a reality tv show about conjoined twins on a round the world trip. Tomorrow we intend on doing a bit of snooping and then flopping on the balcony and getting a tan, currently we have tanned chins and shoulders and that is about it, need to even out the stripes.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO A MISS CHARLIE FARL, WE HOPE YOUR DAY WAS SPIFFING AND CANNY WAIT TO SEE YOU AT MOTHER'S SHINDIG XXXXXX
