As the forcast predicted we woke to rain, lots of it. Relieved we were not going out on the boat today (whatever others say about it being better in the rain!), we were off back up the windy road to Te Anau. Not being such a fun drive in the rain and wind, it took a little longer. After a couple of hours, we stopped in Te Anau to seek refuge in a coffee shop, before carrying on back up the same road towards Queenstown. We stopped in a quaint old fashioned village called Arrowtown, for some more coffee and some snacks before continuing to Wanaka. We also stopped at the Gibbston Valley Vineyard, mainly as we saw the specialty cheese shop! Having tasted the range, we thought it would be rude not to buy some - then decided some wine would go nicely with the cheese as well! We eventually arrived in Wanaka around 5pm, exhausted. We picked a caravan park slightly out of town which was much quieter, and (best of all) had a free spa! We were straight into our swimmers, and spent the early evening in the hot tub – along with 4 other equally excited British travellers, exchanging stories of our travels so far in NZ and on our lives back in Ol' Blighty. Yet again, a nice sunset ended another successful day.

We awoke the next morning with the prospect of another long day’s travelling ahead of us. So what better way than to start the day by walking up Mount Iron, which had fantastic views over Wanaka & the surrounding region. Following this, we took a quick wander by the lake and around the small town, before we were off again, heading to the West Coast.
