A lot has happened since the last time we blogged, so here it goes:
We eagerly awaited our trip to Thailand as a child would await his first summer at camp, not quite sure what to expect but thinks it will be a blast.  Tania and I decided to travel light since we were going to be fairly mobile this journey, we opted for one large backpack to hold our precious belongings.  This we packed the Friday night before the Saturday afternoon we were schedule to abandon our apartment in Taichung.  We would be dropped off at the bus station, make several stops in Taichung before progressing to Taipei’s airport which is actually in Taoyuan.  This bus ride was about 2 hours and was enjoyable due to beautiful views of the mountains just beyond Taichung we hadn’t yet experienced.  We arrived at the airport in just enough time to have the BEST BK chicken sandwich we ever had (I don’t really eat fast food back home, but this was some sandwich) admire various Taiwanese baked goods displayed past “security”, and purchase the most defining protective swine masks ever seen
I have always wondered why people wear these immune weakening filters.  Since I was young I have consistently believed it is better to build up your immune system, this shows in my mother’s frustration to get me to always wear my jacket, than to be a paranoid, overly cautious sneeze flee-er.  In some strange way I always had empathy for those who chose to protect their body as opposed to getting it ready to battle the swine, double taking whenever I caught a glimpse of a mask.  I would run through my mind quickly whether they were ordered to wear it by there doctor to protect others from some catastrophically contagious condition, or whether they had been brainwashed into believing that somehow their body, a miracle of nature they must not of completely communicated with, cannot defend itself and that without antibiotics would crumble to any bacterial exposure. Which one was it?  A few times I would think it was some disease and this person, previously quarantined by Maricopa County’s sheriff Joe, was infected and had an urge to try to inhale some of the air they exhaled just to immunize my body in preparation for a future outbreak.  So I found myself reluctantly wearing this mask in order to affect a disease free, adventurous Thailand trip, only to possibly weaken my organism in the process (talk about instant gratification)!
