I have arrived at Singapore airport for about ten hours of waiting for my connecting flight to Darwin but have had plenty to keep me busy!

On my arrival at Bangkok airport this morning I was told by the check in staff that I had no visa to enter Australia on my passport so I wouldn't be able to travel there. I showed them my receipts from STA Travel for a visa and told them that I was assured it had all been taken care of. This unsurprisingly wasn't of any concern to the check in staff and they suggested I contact STA travel direct. So I went and bought an international phonecard but being a Sunday, all I got from STA travel was a series of answerphone messages and no 24 hour helpline number(great service)!!! Seeing that I had a long wait in Singapore, the Bangkok staff suggested I still catch my plane to Singapore and use my 10 hour wait sorting out a travel visa for Australia. I took this advice and boarded the first leg of my flight knowing that I still had no visa for when I arrived. At Singapore airport I repeated my attempts at showing my receipts and asking for help from various desks but no-one was really that interested. I decided to uncheck my backpack from the connecting flight to Darwin until I knew I would be on it as well, which meant going round and round the airport from desk to desk having to carry around my backpack with me which lead to some rather attractive sweat patches!

After about 4 hours of trying to sort this out, I was left with two options: Go to the Australian embassy in a taxi and hope they would be able to do something with my receipts meaning I could get a visa, or fork out 50 dollars for another one. Not having a clue how far the embassy was I decided the safest option was to pay for my second Australia visa in a month! (STA Travel will be hearing from me about this!).

I'm boarding my flight shortly, I've done about twenty laps of Singapore airport, firstly sorting out a visa, and secondly to kill the six hours I had until my flight once I had one!

If anyone ever needs any tips about where the various desks, shops and toilets are around Singapore International Airport, I'm your man!!!
