Dear All,

I hope everyone's really well and sorry for the delay in writing. I guess part of the reason for that delay is that Bogota is starting to feel a bit more like home, and updating a 'travel blog' now feels a little weird! A good sign I guess. I feel I've definitely settled in well although during my quieter moments there are still plenty of people and places that I miss incredibly, and lots of things I still need to get used to here.

I'll keep this relatively brief because I'm delighted to have been in direct contact with quite a lot of you over the last few months, which has been great. I'm aware I have not written to each and every one of you individually but for those who've contacted me by email, phone or to 'request' some Skype time, you'll know that I'm always really happy to hear from you and reply to each of you directly, usually pretty quickly. Getting 6 of you around a dinner table in Leeds and 'sharing' Sunday lunch with you earlier this month was the highlight of my weekend!

I thought I'd make this my first video blog. These are 2 short clips of my team at Control Risks taking some downtime in a small town about 2 hours outside Bogota where, as you can see, white water rafting and sunny weather are the main attractions.

It's still early days but I'm pleased to say that I don't think I've ever worked with such a nice, genuine, kind and caring group of colleagues. Long may it last. In complete contrast to that statement you'll notice me on the videos (front left of boat), doing all the hard paddling work in one clip, to getting slammed arm and shoulder first into the rocks on the other. Meanwhile the rest of the boat just seems to scream very loudly, and in a horribly high pitched tone!

I'm also attaching a couple of photos from the same day trip.

In other news, social life here is picking up really nicely. Work's going very well and I've just successfully completed my probationary period. My boss is, in her words, 'very, very, very happy with me' and on a weekly basis thanks me for being so 'independent and robust'. Robust to me, means slightly overweight and a little clumsy but I can only assume she means it in a positive sense!!

Of course, I still have a lot to learn. This week I've been doing some very interesting investigative stuff with computer hardrives. For the first time I broke a load of electrical/elecontronic stuff with the intention of doing so!

Will write again soon and tell you about my invitations to teach weekend Krav Maga seminars in Medellin and Cali in April and May. Last post I also mentioned I was planning on entering the 2012 Crossfit Games and I'll fill you in on all that too.

For now, hasta luego. Do stay in touch!

Love Ben x
