Dear friends and loved ones,

I hope all is well. Thoughts go out to those suffering the UK's current sub-zero temperatures!

Sorry it's been a while since my last post and, as always, thanks to the many who've contacted me in the last week or so checking I'm still alive.

Work is keeping me busy (I've just had my 2 month probationary review and the powers that be tell me they're delighted with my progress), so this will be brief.

I'm boarding another 'Latin American matchbox plane' to fly to over the mountains to Medellin tonight for a series of meetings over the next 2 days. I'll then be staying on in Medellin for the second weekend on the bounce - it's a hard life! Those of you who've been to Medellin will know exactly what I mean. Those who haven't....get your skates on and get out here!

Please click on the link below for a short article. It will give you an interesting, albeit negative, insight into the job I do here, without me being too specific about the details!!

Please note that this piece is written about my company's closest competitor, and is an example of how the job should not be done. I've been Control Risks indoctrinated of course so I am bound to tell you that the company mentioned in the article, Kroll, operate in the 'grey' of what we do. If you Google them you'll find various references to employees being arrested and Kroll offices being shut down in places like Mexico and Brazil following allegations of wiretapping. On a serious note, I can absolutely confirm that everything I have experienced in my role so far, offers me 100% reassurance that Control Risks will always operate above the law, and always find a healthy balance between supporting both our clients, and local Andean/indigenous communities.

Here's the article. Enjoy:

It'll soon be time for me to wrap this post up and continue playing James Bond in the jungle. In the meantime, I look forward to receiving your news, and the typically English banter, which I miss so very, very much!

I'm attaching another few photos from my Xmas trip to Buenos Aires.

In other news, I've joined a Crossfit gym here - those of you who know me well will understand the implications this has on my overall happiness with this place! I'm teaching a weekly Krav Maga class there in return for free gym membership, which is a good deal and allows me to meet a lot of new friends. I've done 2 classes so far and we've already run out of space for new attendees.

Work permitting, I'm going to compete in the Latin American Crossfit Games at the end of Feb, my goal for which is to 'clean and jerk' 1.5 times my bodyweight - about 108kg. We'll see if I accomplish either! For those of you less familiar with Crossfit, here's a quick video:

Note the fellow short arse who won the Games last year!!

I'll be back in London in mid to late October for my cousin Jason's wedding. Seems a long way off, and a long time before I see you lot again but I'm already very excited and, in the meantime, continue to really enjoy life here!!

Hasta pronto, folks. Stay in touch.
