We went to Nong Khiaw from Luang Prabang by boat, a nice 5 hour river cruise through some beautiful scenery. Nong Khiaw is described in the Rough guide as having 'some of the most dramatic scenery in Indochina', quite a claim and it is pretty stunning, but apart from the scenery there's not much to do but sit back and relax.
