We arrived in Bangkok not expecting much, we have both been before and found it busy and dirty, however after 5 years since the last time, we were both pleasantly surprised. They have finished the majority of the road works which were congesting the city and as far as dirty goes, we had just spent three months in India, I would have eaten off the floor. We made a concise decision not to stay on Khao san Road this time and stayed in Thewes instead. Thewes is peaceful, not touristy and hassle free on the other hand Khao san still attracts too many people we left the UK to avoid. I would recommend Thewes to anyone wanting to get away from the cliche Bangkok experience.
Bangkok was a good excuse to recharge our batteries after India in a sort of half way point and we went to Chatuchak Weekend market to replace grimy t-shirts and by a few gifts. Chatuchak is allot more organized and touristy than it used to be but a great was to waste a day buy some clothes and spend very Little money.
After a couple of days in Bangkok we took the night train towards Knong Khai, on the Laos boarder. It was a good thing too, because after two days we were felling the pinch in the wallet and the stomach as we snacked all day on the superb street food.
