We left Lindsey's family in Elko, NV, back in late June for Maple Canyon south of Salt Lake City. Maple Canyon is known for it's steep, good old fashioned cobble pullin'!

The canyon rock is conglomerate rock, which is millions of varying-sized cobbles that have eroded to form cliffs and an impressive natural arch.

After a few days of clipping bolts, we headed to Salt Lake City to climb at Little Cottonwood and Big Cottonwood canyons. There, timing worked out to meet up with our Aussie friends again that we met in Lover's Leap, so we enjoyed the fireworks celebration at Sugarhouse Park and sport and trad pitches in the canyons.

It just ain't 4th of July fun without wigs and the airplane!

Dale and Kim left SLC early to go to City of Rocks in south-central Idaho while we stayed back in Salt Lake City for more climbing. More photos from our SLC trip can be found here:

Dale--so that's what you were doing before we got to City of Rocks! We thought you were climbing!!

We eventually did meet up with the Aussie's again and with our climbing goals in hand, we set forth to climb 40 routes in less than a week! Because the granite is so coarse and sharp on these wild formations, we alternated crack climbing days with sport climbing days to rest and repair different parts of our hands.

We have been blessed so far on this trip by the generosity of others. Thank you, Andreas and Kasi, for letting the two of us crash at your place and play with Jasmine while we were in SLC. Also, we were fortunate to run into a gracious family from the SLC and Idaho area on a reunion of sorts that fed our beaten and sunburned bodies at City of Rocks and let us into their lives for a few days. Thanks Jim and family!

You two are nuts... so much rock. Glad you're having fun though!! I'm off to the Rogue River to escape Seattle. It feels like someone is following me around with a giant hair dryer!
