Up to explore the Daintree Rainforest! We did a number of walks through the forest and visited the Daintree Discovery Centre. The rainforest is so incredible, so dense and everything has some sort of vine wrapped around it, everything seems entwined. The Discovery Centre has a 30metre high platform allowing you to check out the rainforest at all the different levels right up to the top canopy, it was incredible.

Our favourites were the strangler figs which wrap themselves around other trees to get to the top canopy reaching for the light. They eventually strangle the tree, which dies and disintegrates leaving only the strangler fig and a hollow space where the tree once was.

Another favourite was the Epiphytes, ferns that grow on the branches of trees but don't destroy them, they feed off falling debris from the upper layers of the canopy.

Stopped off at the Daintree Ice Cream Factory – YUMMY!! We had random flavours – Raspberry, Wattle Seed and Soursop, very tasty!

We saw some Cassowarys crossing the road too. A couple of adults ones together and a father with his babies! They have signs everywhere about slowing down and even a specific Cassowary road sign as they tend to be a bit fearless near roads – not good when you’re endangered!

We continued South, crossed the Daintree River by ferry (only $15 this time and it was further!) and onto Wonga Beach that had a TV room so we could start watching the World Cup!!

You’ll notice now that our trip slows down dramatically as we stay in places that show the World Cup/Have TV ariels so we can watch it on Ben’s computer!!
