We headed off on a loop walk to explore Katherine Gorge, lots of lovely lookouts and views across the countryside, very pretty. Was a pretty short walk so we were done pretty early and headed back to Katherine to do some more exploring. We went to the Katherine Museum which has been done up really well by the Katherine Historic Society. There is a huge amount of WWII history up in this part of Australia, and the museum has a Gypsy Moth Plane that belonged to a guy called Dr Fenton – the original flying Dr! We also found out about the 1998 Australia Day (January 26th) floods that engulfed Katherine, the river rose by 20.4m!!! Insane!
Next we stopped off at Katherine Hot Springs which are only 5 minutes out of town, to be honest they were a bit disappointing, they were documented as being 32C but they were pretty cool, wasn't really worth getting changed!! Think we’ve been spoilt by other hot springs experiences!
We headed out to Edith Falls, another part of Nitmiluk (Katherine Gorge), the campground here is really lovely and a short walk to the lower pool for swimming.
