Spent the last couple of days in Broome preparing for the Gibb River Road and then headed off to Derby!
Stopped off at the Boab Prison Tree where they used to keep Aboriginal Prisoners on route to Derby/Broome through the Kimberley. Arrived in Derby and explored the tourist attractions. Stopped off at The Old Derby Gaol – a sad piece of Australian history where Aboriginals were kept after being kidnapped and then forced to work in the pearling industry. Went to the Derby jetty for a wander and back there for sunset. Derby has tides that range from 1.3-11.8 metres, the second biggest tide in the world! Was pretty incredible!
Headed back to camp for dinner and got eaten alive by mosquitoes! Went to The Spinifex Hotel as recommended by my sister's mate Stacey (she used to work there when she was travelling!). Got chatting to the bar staff and locals and got slightly (meaning very!) drunk! Macca, one of the locals, offered to take us crabbing tomorrow so we jumped at the chance!
