Headed to Pemberton and stopped at the Bicentennial Tree, a 75m high Karri tree that was converted, along with 4 other trees in the area, to fire spotting stations, their height allowing the spotters to view vast areas of the forest and pinpoint fires. The trees are now open to the public to climb. Basically, steel pegs have been nailed into the trunk of the tree and spiral upwards toward the top viewing platforms. There is netting around the side of the pegs to stop you falling sideways but nothing below the pegs you stand on. Ben was brave enough to climb to the top, Beth stopped about 10 pegs up and headed back down!! Being 65m’s up and looking down onto nothing but the ground a long way below while the tree sways in the wind is quite an experience! The view from the top is spectacular and well worth the effort!

That tree is amazing...I went the 10 steps and came down like you Beth.....Ger went to the top!!!
I reckon I'd get to the top... then freak out about getting down!
