.Aaaah, cheap Indian hotels, you gotta love them. Paper thin walls, wine shop next door, (so late night drunken Indian guys),mosquitoes galore, 4am Wake up call from load Indians in the halls and their rooms, oblivious to the time or the fact that others are trying to sleep. Oh well, as Greguar would say ' i don't like India.....I LOVE IT!'
Thanjavurs main sight is the Brihadisvara temple, or the big temple as it is so eloquently known. Quite an impressive temple, it is from the early Chola period apparently and features amongst other things a rather enormous Nandi, which one a fortnight they wash with milk, water and tumeric in front of large local crowds. Sadly this was not happening during our visit. The temple has many impressive and intricate carvings, and the largest Vimana in India (OOOOHHHH!). :p Joseph talked to a a guy in the compound about some sort of meditation he had learnt a little about and i watched as they tried to pronounce 'Ohm' correctly. Apparently, Pronouncing it as three different syllables, you have to feel the vibrations in your chest on the o, then feel it as it travels upwards into your head, where you feel the vibrations from the mmm. Was interesting to me as it showed more than just chanting and how concentration is involved.
The palace in Thanjavur was very, very disappointing and apart from the view from the tower it was completely not worth it, especially the 'exhibits/exhibitions entry included, which might as well have been empty rooms.
Deciding there was little else to see in town, we bused it back to Trichy, from where we would it to the cool hills
