Due to it being a Sunday, i got to the Krabi bus station to find that they only had air con buses (much more expensive) and that they were all full, so i had to pay much more than usual for a ticket, then stand in the aisle for 3 of the four hours. Also, as I'm taller than the average Thai, my head was touching the roof, thus avoiding any benefits of the air con. Not the best midday bus ride I've done, i can tell you.
Got to Hat Yai, but it was too late to get either bus ,train or minibus to Penang that day, so i took a taxi to a guest house with an English couple at the bus station. They were soo nice: they had a Malaysian phone card they hadn't used so they gave me it, plus i stupidly didn't have a single baht on me, so they paid my fare and refused to let me pay them back after I'd been to the ATM. You really do meet the nicest people when travelling. They have somewhat restored my faith in the English nation, though i wouldn't yet go as far as saying I'm proud to be English!
Anyway, Hat Yai was another place i liked, again there's nothing to do there but it has some gigantic markets, so obviously I'm happy there, just eating my way through the various stalls!
In the morning i bumped into Sam, one of my motorbike gang from Laos, as he was staying in the same guest house with his girlfriend and was even booking the bus to Penang i was about to book, so i had companions for the journey. Or i would have done, except after putting us all into a nice minibus, they then promptly put me only into a smaller, shittier one. Luck of the draw i guess. Still a hassle free journey ensued and i was soon in Penang.
