After A day of travel and arriving at the hotel late in the evening, we left the hotel at 9:15 in the morning to begin our climb of the Yellow Mountain. In comparison to Moon Hill, this was a mammoth climb, which we finished at half six in the evening. I was absolutely knackered! I can't really write anything that'll justify how beautiful the scenery was up the mountain, however the scenery was somewhat spoiled by commercial greed building unnecessary 5 star hotels on top of many of the peaks.
Another display of how human rights and health are sacrificed in this country in order to make a living, on the way up were were passed by several porters. After Dragon spoke to them it emerged that they were carrying loads of about 80kg up the mountain, and would do this 3 times a day, for about 120 yuan ( less than a tenna) a trip. Also some of these loads contained blankets and bedding, which it turns out they were carrying to the hotels at the top as up there the water supply isn't good enough to clean the laundry so they have to haul the laundry down the hill to wash it, then haul it aback up! How lazy and disgusted with yourself would you feel if you were in that hotel using those towels!
Oh by the way, due to the way that Dragon always pronounces my name as Ben Davey, (never just Ben) i am now officially known as Craig David, as thats what it sounds like!
Dragons organisation today definitely needed much to be desired, though looking back on it it is quite amusing. We were told beforehand that it was best to buy lunch beforehand in Hangzhou as their was only 1 very expensive poor quality restaurant on the mountain. Needless to say we were a little confused when at 11:30 we stopped for lunch at a very nice, reasonably priced restaurant on the mountain. I obviously didn't eat as i had been snacking on my store bought lunch all the way ( oh the comedy begins).
By about 3pm, i had finished all my snacks and expected, as told, tat we were nearly finished, only to be told that we had only done 3km, and had another15 to go! This being despite the fact that dragon had previously told us it was only 11km in total! Basically we now know that any estimates that dragon makes for time and distance are complete crap and are made up as and when he feels!
