Where I stayed
We are currently in sunny Seville and the weather couldn´t be better. Not only are the days long, hot and clear but the hostel we are staying in, Triana Backpackers, is gorgeous. Think Moorish fantasy with tiles, cushions and decent bathrooms. Plus there is a rooftop terrace complete with hammocks.
Yes my friends. While you have been struggling with the winter blues James and I have been chillin´in hammocks, drinking sangria and chatting away til the wee small hours. This is a proper holiday!
We have been kulchural too. Today we braved the heat to see the Royal Palace which is a fascinating mix of gothic and moorish architecture set in beautiful gardens. If I had a billion dollars, my house would be like that. (while I´m dreaming I want a pony too)
It was the perfect place to hang out during the hot part of the day. We also swung by the church which is massive. Truly monumental architecture. The altar is an acid dream of gold and bling. And there are the usual creepy reliquaries (not even spellcheck could help me there!) Personally the sight of a dead guy´s rib bone does not inspire me to greater heights of religious devotion. But each to their own.
Seville is a quintessential Spanish city. Laid back and friendly. The only thing lacking is a decent beach. But we are making do with our tapas, terrace and sangria. I´m imagining the beach-which in in this heat isn´t hard to do! Finally the jeans and jumpers have been relegated to their proper place at the bottom of my pack. The only thing missing is a flamenco experience....which is where we are going tonight. I would like to say i won´t get up and dance if invited but you all know I´d be lying. Plus it would give a brilliant opportunity to embarrass James, which as we all know is the primary life goal of any older sister.
I shall report back with my tales of the night and (possibly) James´and my own public humiliation.
