This weekend we headed to the Netherlands to visit Maastricht, a town that was described to me as "kind of like Amsterdam but less touristy".
We (me, Caitlyn, Lyle, Carey & Miles) left on Friday and got there around one. We proceeded to hang out and talk and such until we went to bed. In the morning, we headed out to Maastricht to explore...the city was really cool, and definitely different from everywhere I've been so far. I really liked being by water and around people who were friendly and interesting to watch!
We had french fries while while we were there (second time for the day, the first time was McDonalds in the morning lol...its become somewhat of a travel tradition to have it at least once...so call me American.) but they were really good! I didn't get any myself, but most of the group got the standard ketchup/curry/mayo combo (which, by the way, I still don't get! Not impressed with it yet!) but Lyle got a beef stew one that was really awesome! I don't know what it is, but I just can't get into the mayo and french fry concept. Maybe that's just my general lack of interest in mayo overall...perhaps.
After we were done being touristy, we headed back to Jimmy's where we watched a few movies and had dinner at a fried food place. Everything at this place was really delicious...there were these fried rolls that kind of looked like spring rolls but were filled with different things like spicy pork and garlic or chicken and-wait for it- Peanut butter! it was actually really good! They also had very good currywurst and fries. It was a really unique place to dine at.
For the most part, it was a very relaxed weekend. We did a lot of people watching, observing and hanging out, but it was nice to take a trip at a slower place for once. I think everyone had a really good time together, and it occurred to me again this weekend that I'm really going to miss these people! When they said your camp friends are going to be some of the best you ever make, I didn't take it to seriously, but now I can definitely see why. I've definitely made some really great memories with incredible people and never want it to end!
Next weekend? It's in the air...I guess you'll just have to wait and see!
