Well we've arrived... barely alive after 18.5 hours of travel.  It was so nice to get a ride to our hotel from the airport - we pretty much just passed out when we got to our beds!!  The air here is so thick with humidity, we could feel it with our first breath off the plane.  Quite a difference from the dry Canadian air.  The next morning we wandered down to the fancy dining area of the hotel for a 'Western' breakfast... eggs, bacon, pancakes, fruit, etc... it all tasted slightly different from at home, so we think we're just going to stick to local food from now on!  haha... after filling up we took the train to Little India.  Singapore is soooo clean - we didn't see a single piece of litter or graffiti anywhere.  Chewing gum is illegal here... and we can see why - it is absolutely spotless. People here are very patient and courteous for such a busy place and are also so nice, we had no trouble finding our way.  Just two train stops away from our hotel, we felt like we could have been in India.  The streets were lined with stalls with spices and smells of food and beautiful fabrics... it was very cool.  We wandered through the stalls and into a little yoga store where a woman there gave us quotes on paper wrapped in the shape of flowers.  Feeling inspired, we wandered into an indoor market nearby where there were even more vendors selling fish, produce, clothing and more.  We bought some beautiful bangles (only 4 more weeks of shopping to go!)... and headed back to our hotel where we joined a group tour of Sentosa, one of 63 islands that comprises Singapore.  We were the only ones on the bus under the age of 65, but that's ok... we still had fun.... first we stopped at the Underwater World, where there are all kinds of deep sea creatures - GIANT crabs and tanks where we could pet sharks and sting rays.  They also had actual shark embryos at different stages which was interesting... we also could walk through a glass tunnel where the fish swam all around us... very cool.  Our next stop was a Singapore History Museum... which was kind of cheesy... sort of Disneyland 'It's a Small World'-ish.... but it was ok... from the top of the hill we had an amazing view of Singapore.  It really is a clean, beautiful city surrounded by lush rain forest.  Our last activity was a ride on gondola cars above the city - gorgeous views.  That was by far our favourite part of the day.  After that we hopped on the bus with the grey-tops and went back to our hotel for a quick nap (by then we were soooo tired - jetlag got the better of us).  We then headed out in search of food.  We found a little restaurant (courtesy of our Lonely Planet book) called the Soup Restaurant, where they have many herbal soups for different ailments.  I (Kelly) had some soup and some wonderful fried rice (the best either of us had ever had)!! and Becky had the Samsui Ginger Chicken, a traditional Chinese dish that is eaten with lettuce wraps and fresh ginger.  It was all really good.  This was the first place where we came across a language barrier - Singapore is predominantly English-speaking, which has been nice for us being so jetlagged.  It has been hard enough communicating in English these past couple of days, let alone in another language, haha!  We then stumbled home to pass out (but not before hitting a bargain clothing store of course - heehee).  We feel a bit less jet-lagged today, which is good, because we're just about to head to the airport for our next desination - Bangkok!  We'll be practicing our Thai phrases on the plane to prepare.  We'll try to add our pictures from Singapore to our next entry... if we can find the facilities.  We miss everyone from home and are thinking of you all.  See you soon! I'm glad you're safe and landed.
Great to hear from you! Singapore sounds like quite the experience - would have been neat to have another day there? Hope your flight to Bangkok is smooth and you continue to get over the jet lag. I've heard that English is widely used in Bangkok as well so that may help you out for a few more days. Talk to you at your next destination. Love Mom.

You make me want to visit!
Wow, Singapore sounds wonderful. Aren't you glad you're there? We're glad you arrived safely and even though it doesn't sound like you loved the flight, you didn't mention any thing nasty about it either, so that's good.
Becky, we love you and we are praying that you have a wonderful adventure with Kelly. Love from your mommy.

Re: You make me want to visit!
Singapore seems so long ago already! The flight was great, just WAY too long... Singapore Airlines is VERY nice and I would definitly recommend it... everything was included with the flight (booze too - although we stayed away) and they seemed to come around every half hour or so offering drinks. we also got little amenity bags with toothbrushes, toothpaste, and socks! too cute! But after 24 hours of travel (6 hrs even before the 18.5 hrs of flight!)... I was almost in tears. Next time I take a flight that long, I will most certainly spring for first class! (just to be able to lay down)

thanks for the well wishes... it's great to hear from home!! love you!
