After setting a bustling pace in South Dakota we thought we would take a slower pace in North Dakota but plans don't always match realities. We aimed for Theodore Roosevelt National Park and didn’t quite make it, so slept in the car at the rest area, not too uncomfortable. We woke up the next day to a huge beautiful Bison next to the car. Amazing! Someone scared it off with their car and it bolted off like crazy, cool!
Roosevelt National Park is pretty amazing, it highlights the conservation efforts of President Roosevelt, his life story and even contains one of the cabins he lived in when he visited and hunted in North Dakota. Roosevelt was pretty much responsible for saving the Bison from extinction although when he first arrived in the area he was so worried that there would be no Bison left that he aimed to kill one and take it home for everyone to see ( ha, ha, the irony!). We think he may be our favorite President if people really have favs.
We then headed East, busted through Bismarck (the capital of ND) to the eastern border and the town of Fargo. Fargo is a nice town with beautiful recreation areas and a multicultural feel that we appreciated. They also had a fabulous mall that we trolled around for a few hours, appreciating the free wifi. We are enjoying heading East as it becomes a little more familiar feeling – some of those British influences still seeping through.
We set a cracking pace but we both really enjoyed the car time together and being able to chat about everything and anything, although Jesse’s ears may be getting sore, he hasn’t complained yet. All the worlds’ problems can be solved on a gigantic road trip with a great sound track. We are still loving the road trip and getting used to and thoroughly enjoying the responsibility of having no real responsibility and no plans.
Love and Peace to you all, the world problem solving, Bek and Jesse Train
