We then headed up in the world, literally! Up the Californian coast, through Los Padres National Forest to Monterey. California is quite a long state so we spent the night in Los Padres National Forest (Thanks again Mum and Dad for the National Parks pass, you have saved us a mint!). Our camping was on a hill next to a lovely river. We are getting super quick at putting our tent up and down! We always impress the locals.
Monterey used to be a fishing town that specialised in Sardines, particularly catching and canning. As a result most of the town is focused around the ocean which makes for a relaxing visit. Although we are still biased and think that Perth and Australian beaches are not rivalled here (ha ha). We wandered around the area and saw the old Cannery Row, which contains all the old canneries which have long been converted to shops and restaurants. They even have a Bubba Gump Shrimp Factory, ha ha a restaurant in memory of Forest Gump! We also saw old Fishermans Wharf and the new Marine Conservation Area. We have never seen so many Scuba Divers in our lives!
