We decided this morning to go whale watching again. The weather wasn't exactly cooperating with this endeavor. We left the dock at 10:00 am on a 100 ft boat and a very enthusiastic Marine Biologist (we went with a different whale cruise outfit today). The boat was bigger and the ride while still bumpy was better than yesterday. However, the rain started rolling in...But our suffering was not in vain! We saw several Humpback whales today and one was quite active jumping out of the water. It was an amazing sight! Then we saw a momma and baby Humpback. It was a great trip. It takes 3 months for the whales to migrate from the equator to northern California around 5000 miles one way. They come to the Monterey Bay area because it has an abundance of the krill they like to feed on. It was great seeing these large mammals. Once we got back on shore we started heading up the Pacific Coast Highway again. The views were incredible! We stopped many times to walk on the beachs and take pictures. The weather started clearing up but the winds were strong and cold. This did not hinder us from hiking these beachs. We climbed the rocks to get better views...as if they could get any better. The waves were loud almost like they were roaring some I am guessing were 10 feet high. It was so exciting when they would crash against the ragged rocks, the water would spray at least 20 feet high. We stopped at the Point Montara Lighthouse, which is just south of San Francisco. This lighthouse was built in 1875 and was used during WWII as a naval training center. The views from this lighthouse were fantastic. We hiked the rocks below the lighthouse and investigated the tide pools. We saw crabs, starfish and urchins. We wanted to stay there all day. San Francisco is not at all what I pictured it to be. I found it to be an incredibly beautiful area. We did not venture downtown to Fisherman's Wharf as we had planned but we will make it the next time we visit this wonderful city.Tomorrow we head home...this has been a great vacation!
