Today we left Yuba City for Yosemite National Park. It was a beautiful day hardly a cloud in the sky and around 80 degrees. It was about 116 miles to Yosemite. We drove to the north entrance of Yosemite through areas where the forest fires had scorched the land. The lodgepole pine trees where some of the biggest I have ever seen. Kevin was driving through these winding roads with great enthusiasm. He really wished he had the motorcycle. When we rounded the bend we got our first glimpse of Half Dome which is 8,842 feet high. It is quite a distinctive feature with the shear cliff. A little further up the road we came to Bridalveil Falls, which gets its name because the mist created from the free falling 620 ft drop of the water looks like a veil.We took a short 1/2 mile hike to the bottom of the falls. They were a very incredible site. We continued on to Yosemite Valley and picked up a few souvenirs. As we were making our way to our hotel in Oakhurst, we came upon an incredibly awesome view of Yosemite Valley. I could have stood there forever just looking at this fantastic sight. There in front of us were the Bridalveil Falls on the left, Half Dome on the right, and El Capitan. El Capitan is a massive, granite Monolith which stands 3,593 feet from the Yosemite Valley floor. Kevin had to use the wide angle lens on the video camera to take in all this beauty. We then continued south to our hotel. We discussed all the hikes in Yosemite we will be attempting in the next few days. As we neared our destination a coyote ran in front of the car and just about scared us to death. We will attach pictures from this great day of traveling.
