Today we headed out at 5:45am to drive to the first outpatients clinic. Gretchen who I am staying with is an Occupational Therapist who has specialised in Hand Therapy she dropped me off at the first clinic after collecting a tray of Dunkin' Doughnuts and a box of coffee, I then met some of the patients. The slogan for Dunkin' Doughnuts is 'America runs on Duncan' I'm unsure who this Duncan fellow is but it amuses me! It was really interesting to hear patients stories of traumatic injuries and their road to recovery. Most of the patients at the clinic were seeing OT for upper limb rehab and hand therapy. Gretchn's husband collected me at 1pm to take me to the next clinic, he had kindly made me a picnic lunch to have in the car! I met with Gretchen at her clinic, there were lots of interesting patients who were really interested in my role and what I have learnt from the American health care system. Started at 7 and finished at 7, that was my first and last 12 hour shift, I could barley function after it! So we got Chinese in boxes on the way home!
