Planes, Trains & Automobiles - so Laura is the one getting the plane today, I'm just getting the train and car however I had to squeeze that title in somewhere!

So we left the Roosevelts' this morning, they have been so welcoming. It was a very relaxing couple of days and just what Laura and I had needed! I should really formally introduce Laura; Laura is the Nottingham Roosevelt Nurse Scholar, when we found out about each other when the Scholarships had been confirmed we realised we worked on wards next door to each other at Nottingham City Hospital! Laura is investigating 'Shared Governance', a bottom-up management structure for wards to involve all staff in decision making. You can follow her blog too by searching Laura.Hailes in the TravelPod search bar.

Haven kindly drove Laura to the airport and me to the Amtrak (train) station in Providence. We said our goodbyes, I dropped my bags at the station and headed out to look around Providence. As you can see from the pictures the architecture was stunning in places and looked beautiful on such a clear day. I wanted to explore further however I was getting hungry and the Mall was so warm and inviting! So I went to the food court and got myself some brilliant Sushi and Ice Tea.

I had lots of time so I started out on my quest for souvenirs and Christmas presents. It was some what successful however I was quickly sidetracked to look at the clothes shops!

I then got the Amtrak from Providence to Newark, this went round New York City and down into Penn Station. It was lovely to see the city all lit up but we had to sit in the station for 20 minutes. Once I was at Newark I picked up the car and drove down to East Windsor where I met with my host family the Pennengas. I got this contact through my Dad, Amy (daughter) was a previous gap year volunteer placed in Nottingham through the charity 'time for god' that he ran. We apparently met once. I was in the QMC pantomime 'snow white and the 7 friends', Amy came to watch with her youth group! My parents linked it together as they had been to see me the night before. So we officially met today! I will be here for a week and a half over thanksgiving and the holiday weekend. It's really kind of them to have me over this busy period!

I have more hospital based visits and lots of writing to catch up on from last weeks conference. The last couple of days felt sort of like my weekend so back to work now!
