Thankfully Adam and Cheryl happened to walk past the coffee shop I was sitting in and they were kind enough to allow me to latch onto their group. As it happened they were planning on checking out the COEX mall to do some shopping, so that was a win/win situation.
Because COEX is so close to where we were staying we decided to walk there instead of taking the bus. The weather had been wonderful for the entire trip; sunny and not too hot or cold
The place was pretty huge and, like with other malls in Korea, it was kind of a maze. We would our way through, looking at various things but not really buying anything. At this point in the trip most of us were starting to get kind of tired and our patience was wearing a little thin. Eventually we found ourselves at the aquarium and I was eager to go inside. Cheryl was not so eager... but we pressed on. Most of the time Cheryl would breeze past the featured tanks and wait for Adam and I on the other side. I tried to take my time in admiring the marine life, but it was hard when I felt that people were waiting on me. We made it to the shark tank room just in time for feeding. I have to admit, it was cramped in the room and there were a number of crying kids who made the situation less than ideal.... but I was so absorbed with watching the animals that it didn't really matter. A pair of sea turtles floated back and forth, snapping up leaves of lettuce and massive sting rays slid past to glass, gobbling up little fish. And the sharks. So many sharks gliding back and forth just inches from where we were standing. It was awesome.
Finally feeding was over and we pushed on, making our way out of the aquarium. I thought it was awesome, but it was obvious that I was the only one who thought so. Whatever. Sometime I will have to go back by myself to take my time watching the tanks. Regardless of what other people think I love zoos and aquariums, they make me happy.
After we were finished with the aquarium we met up with the rest of our pack to grab some lunch. Previously Adam and Cheryl had found a TexMex restaurant that they wanted to try so we all went there. We took over Across the Boarder and started to go to town on their free chips and salsa. We ordered drinks (Oh! my Mojito was so gooood) and queso to start and then our entrees. Man, I ate way too much. Chips, salsa, queso, mojito, soup, enchiladas. Previously I had thought about continuing to shop after we ate but my energy was lagging.
We wandered back to the subway and I went back to my hotel where I had checked my luggage earlier that morning. Then it was a cab to the bus terminal and I was just in time to catch the bus back to Shin Pyeong. I arrived just as the sun was setting on my holiday weekend.
