Sweet warm sun rays!! since we flew out of Cairns australia and into New Zealand we had not felt temperutres above 15 ºC. That was a solid month of us freezing and soaking from rain the majority of the time.

As our bus arrived in Ica, about 5 hours south of Lima we saw the clouds parting and God blow us a kiss from the sun just before the sun set. Huacachina was a short taxi ride from Ica. It is a tiny town built around a lake and palm trees, and famous for sandboarding. The dictionary definition of a commercialised oasis.

We awoke the next day, slipped into our dusty shorts and rented our sandboards. Sandboarding is basically snow boarding but on sand dunes. Rather than standing on the boards we sat on them like a sledge. We chose to only rent the boards rather than go buggying as well because we heard the drivers can be a bit reckless, and when seeing them fly over the dunes whilst we were up there were happy with our decision. The downside was the tiring and never ending feeling of climding up the dunes with our boards in the searing heat. Two steps forward and one slip back. But once we got up we waxed up our boards and slid down at quite a speed both coming off and swallowing a heaped spoonful amount of sand.

We loved Huacachina for the sun and serenity and would definetely recommend it to anyone to go.
