Today I woke up at 6:15 in the morning and took a taxi to the train station, where I got on a train to London to meet up with a group of study abroad students taking a day trip to Windsor Castle and Hampton Court Palace. Needless to say, it was a long and tiring day, but it was worth it. The palaces were overwhelming; it was sensory overload. The gardens at Hampton Court Palace were also spectacular. I think I spent the entire day trekking from one place to another with a fellow student, going through state rooms and king and queen bedchambers and seeing more portraits than I have seen in a lifetime. I also walked over the tomb where Henry VIII is buried in St. George's Chapel while a member of the choir practiced in the background. My favorite room of all the many rooms I saw today was the state room in Windsor palace. It has coats of arms all over the walls and ceilings and doubles as a huge dining hall. One thing I know for sure now is that I would not recommend seeing two palaces in one day. It is too much of everything.
