The food in China has been surprisingly good, indeed it has been quite a highlight. It is easy to get a local type of flat bread for breakfast & other than that there has been a healthily high vegetable & tofu content in the food. The Chinese are highly prone to cooking in a lot of fat, but other than that I have particularly enjoyed the food.
The food takes, in my opinion, a slight turn for the worse as I get to the Muslim areas. The dishes are good, but very samey and very high on meat, especially fatty lamb, content. Some days I find myself eating two or three meals of lamb and bread. Say, samsa, a small piece of lamb wrapped in pastry, like a lamb pasty, for breakfast and lamb kebabs and flat bread for dinner. Fruit is widely available, but it is a bit difficult to find veg in the restaurants, which are mainly kebab stalls on the pavement.
