It's not as wet as yesterday’s forecast predicted. There are passing showers.
The lake is over a foot higher now and the boats were floating instead of sitting on shore. Navigator bails out the wooden skiff which is always on the shore here.
When it is not raining too much we get the boats back out of the water in the car park next door ready to tow back to the cottage on the trailer.
Captain throws the dog ball upwards by mistake and it lodges in a tree about 25 feet off the ground. The crew spend some time throwing stones and sticks up in the air to try to dislodge it.
We start packing. We seem to have bought a lot of jars of jam, honey and pickles. For the second year we pack up the jars of german sausages that we used to eat on the lake shore in the days of sunny weather holidays.
After packing as much as we can we walk back round to try to get the ball down. Two of the ship’s ropes are tied together to try to dislodge the ball. It doesn’t work. The rain has stopped. There are lots of midges around. The ship’s dog has to be tied up and left to watch all the sticks and stones being thrown. She doesn’t like it one bit. She doesn’t realise that it is all for her – to get her favourite ball back.
It is not a success so the crew use the rope for skipping!
We give up and return to the cottage.
