At last a day of sunshine. The Captain and Navigator go for a sail.  Mate cooks a banana cake.  The electricity board come to turn the power off so they can cut down some trees.  They very kindly wait until the cake is cooked!

We have a quick lunch and prepare for a sunny day adventure.  Captain, Navigator and Cabin Boy take Bears Away out to sail up the Lake.  Mate and Crew don walking boots and sun hats and walk the ship's dog along the Lake shore to meet up with the others somewhere along the Lake.  We left some banana cake wrapped in foil on the windowsill for the electricity men who waited for it to cook.

The sailing party tacks patiently nearby until the walkers appear at the shore path to start their walk.

There is plenty of wind coming down the Lake so Bears Away has to tack up towards Coniston.  Winds are interesting on the Lake.  Usually the wind direction changes in time for the return journey so we have to tack back as well.   The walkers have to leave the Lake shore and walk a section of road, coming back to the shore to find the crew of Bears Away on the shingle.  It is so warm that the Cabin Boy wants to swim.

The ship’s dog swims for sticks.  When we are ready to set off again the dog refuses to leave the Captain and has to be lured away with the ball.  She keeps trying to go back at every opportunity.  We walk the sunny shore path until the sailing party indicate that they want to come in to shore and we find them a nice deep landing place.  The Captain needs to relieve himself.

We sit on the shore and have our snacks.  The wind is strong and cold so we decide to all go back in Bears Away under electric motor.  It is very chilly.  Navigator trails a fishing line behind as we silently head home against the wind.  We watch a Wayfarer almost capsize several times.  A wooden sailing boat tries to leave the island but their motor won’t start and they have to row against the wind.  As we pass the rocks off the island the fishing line goes taught.   It is very taught.  We decide that it  can’t be a fish so we go back to try to loose it.  Eventually the line snaps, giving the Navigator a nasty sting on the hand.  We continue back home, looking forward to getting warm inside.  The sun is still shining but the wind is very cold.

The weather forecast is for 2 days of heavy rain so we cover the boats up well and tie them securely to the shore.

The empty foil from the banana cake is on the windowsill with a stone to hold it down.  I don’t know what they thought of wholemeal banana cake but it had all gone . . . . .

We watch the television news of riots.
