Christmas in the Amazon - Friday 22nd - Tuesday 26th December 2006
We arrived at the most "surreal" Ariau Towers 2 hours up the River Negro from Manaus. Despite the bizarre setting our Amazon experience was awesome! Our days were filled with cycling through the jungle on the 7km of walk ways, Piranha fishing, jungle trekking, alligator (Cayman) spotting, Christmas dinner, Indian village visit including meeting the local pet Anaconda! Finally the Christmas day highlight was the terrifying swim with the "vicious" Pink Dolphins. What a present!! This visit ended with a fast cruise up the Amazon to the "meeting of the waters"
An experience in Manaus Wednesday 27th December 2006
We had a day and night in Manaus visiting the famous Manaus Teatro (Opera House) and doing some bartering in the markets for beautiful hammocks. We then headed for the airport only to be bumped off our flight to San Paulo due to over booking! After some assertive negotiation we ended up in a five star hotel for the night, much to the delight of Abi!
