Where I stayed
West Point Provincial Park
It's Sunday. Went down to Spinnaker's Landing to the VIC and got info on Summerside. There are a bunch of stores at the Landing and had fun shopping. There was a cool celtic store and the lady is from Dawson Creek, been in the maritimes for 10 years now.
I was really hungry, found a seafood restaurant on the water and had a big bowl of mussels - I was so full after! Then I wondered through Summerside and saw some of the murals. It was pretty quiet - oh yeah - Sunday!
Decided I would drive 'up west' - the west side of PEI taking the North Cape Coastal Drive. It wasn't long before I see this huge church. Pulled over and got some pics. I know I have some info somewhere - will have to dig it up.
Not too far up the road I see what's left of a church - not sure what happened to it but just the steeple is left. Looks like the land is being made into a rest type area with plants and picnic tables. There weren't any signs except 1862 - 1962 so will have to do some googling.
My next stop was in Cap-Egmont to see the bottle houses. This fellow decided to build the first one after seeing a bottle house on Vancouver Island. There are several buildings now, the chapel, the gabled house and the tavern - over 25,000 bottles were used. The 'bottle' was built by the grandsons just recently. The gardens are absolutely beautiful and peaceful. This place was just...magical. I could have spent the whole afternoon here.
Back on the road, I made my way to West Point and Cedar Dunes Provincial Park. Went to see the lighthouse which was built in 1875. They have a museum and I got to climb to the top. Was a great view! The last set of stairs to the top was pretty much a ladder and I was very careful! TIP: not the best idea to climb ladders wearing a skirt.
I went down to the beach and put my feet in the water - the Atlantic Ocean. I was walking the beach and found my first piece of sea glass! It was small but hey - fun! It was getting late - 7pm ish so got a site at the provincial park for the night. A pretty spot, watched the sun set.
