Tim and I left the Czech Republic yesterday and drove northeast to the Polish border to check out a border town in Poland next to Germany called Zgorzelec. Driving out of the Czech Republic towards Poland, we ended up on the craziest little dirt back road. It seemed more like a road you would be taking in Humboldt County where you're thinking ... hm, maybe we shouldn't be on this road because we may run into something or someone that would not appreciate us being in their neck of the woods. Well, after driving on this road and still seeing all the cars with Czech license plates, we saw a little space on the left of this one part of the road between some trees and decided to drive through it. It was pretty much a ditch. Well, darn if we weren't in Poland now. We took the Polish road to the Zgorzelec and ate lunch at the only restaurant we saw. The buildings around where we stopped to eat looked pretty bleak as did much of the town and the people did not seem very happy. The prices and fashion of 1987 were in full effect. We ate lunch and tried a little Polish vodka and left for Germany. It was interesting to experience.
