"Get together Get together, we got... to get together get together"   Three brothers huddled chanting along with the funky meters.  Well the stracco men need to get together and fishing and funky live music and food are the most appropriate scenarios for this to occur.
Poppa stracco was at first hesitant of the whole idea of going back to New Orleans and the money involved in such endeavors of hiring guides and such, but he was quickly convinced with my brain control powers after such lines as, "It's a once in a stracco lifetime opportunity pops."
two consecutive mornings waking at 5am, was a small price to pay as I realized what MLK weekend stands for to the south, another reason to get down and have a good time. Just like the King jr once said.  "My brother's I have a dream... that we will get together drinking worm wood dancing to funky beats and flyfishing for spot tails down on the bayou."Middle brother pops and I cruised the big easy strolling the crescent cities river walk before stopping into a 200 yr old watering hole frequented by the pirate LaFeet to have a few Absinthe drinks with pops and brother.   Against our pop's advice lil' brother Nicky had bought all the brothers tickets to the meters at Tipatina's the night before our big fishing trip.  Then the transmission of our rental car went out on canal street leaving us to abandon the car after pushing it to an illegal parking spot requiring us to walk to the restaurant. So with that in mind we went to the famous Muriel's to acquire sustenance for the dancing night and following casting day energy requirements.  Funky meters with brothers in New Orleans a couple hours before an epic stracco guys fishing extravaganza, couldn't have been more perfect.  Watching littlest brother show off his new trip-hop dance moves (apparently he's becoming a founder of Tulane's Hip Hop dance club).  Dan's girl finding us on the dance floor after driving all day from Oklahoma.  Though brothers were hesitant to leave "early" we were in bed and asleep before 3:30am
Waking up on brother's couch after our 2 1/2hr nap brought me back to Fort Collins days of such adventures and I was glad that this would be my first with all the brothers.  Luckily the day started slowly with much discussion, greasy spoon breakfast at Penny's cafe with Nick getting a bloody nose (lack of vitamin B and iron in vegetarian's diets) .  We then picked teams since there were two boats hundreds of square miles of bayou, marsh, ponds and open water to fish and damn if our guides were going to fish with in 40 miles of anyone else.  So pops and Dan, then Nick and I got in our Flats boats and wished each other luck on a gorgeous blue bird winter day not even 30 min drive south of the city limits.   I was anxious to see the affects from BP along the tidal marsh grasses and see what wildlife still remained. He wha' happened to the OIL?  Within 10 min we spotted porpoise on our bow in shallow brackish water, river otter, eagles, smelly pelican's every where, and large flocks of various shoot-able waterfowl.
Our guide Rock was very adamant about us not blowing our chances with these fish. "All I can do is spot them and get you in range"  As only one person gets to cast at a time, switching off after each landed fish.  Nicky was quick to spot an opportunity and wouldn't be casting more than 10 min before landing a fish each time he got up to the platform allowing maximum time with his eyes closed waiting for me to whoop and holler but his older brother spooked red by landing the fly too close to there noses and spent more time casting than catching.   This went on for 7 hrs poling through the bayou spotting redfish through the glare, tea colored water and slight chop.  We jammed out with our guide Rocky free-styling lyrics as we blasted more meters from some portable speakers, getting a little hair of the abitta dog, apparently it was the right vibration for fish attraction.
After our two boats had our two dozen reds we headed back through the bayou up the Mississippi canal for an hour back to the boat ramp were we saw a party of people bait fishing for reds on the docks shoulder to shoulder, not the same experience we had just had.
Just so happened that the Bears Seahawks playoff game was the next day so Dan scooped me up both of us wearing New Orleans sensation Matt Forte Jerseys, the next morning and we headed to Cooter Browns for oysters on the half shell pitcher's of high gravity Abbita and a great day of football from Da Bears to help cap off an excellent weekend.    Celebrating MLK jr by grilling 12 lbs of pork and watching a schizophrenic ballerina kill the white swan.
Well one more day in the third world and then back to chitown for 28hrs to repack before heading to fish in Costa Rica.
