Sunbeach Hotel

We took the hotel transfer bus from the bus station. The driver got completely lost, driving the length of the strip before eventually locating our hotel back at the first section of the peninsula. We got there at around 10pm. As it was so late, the restaurant was closed, so they gave us a snack pack welcome bag to take to our room.

When we first saw our room we thought it wasn´t too bad. Then I saw that the hygiene seal on the loo was broken and someone had left a pube on the toilet seat. Most of the light switches were simply exposed electrical cables, as the face-plates had been stolen. Then Barry noticed that the couch was wet. When you looked at it, you could see the outline of two people, who´d obviously sat there after a dip in the pool. We went down to the reception to see about moving rooms. We were told there were none available and to check back in the morning.

After breakfast we returned to reception to collect our passports. The lady said another room was available if we´d like to take a look at it. This room was so much nicer. Double bed, TV facing it, a clean bathroom, A.C. that worked, and a balcony to boot. We took it. We spent the afternoon by the pool, having a few drinks, and after lunch we tried our hand at table tennis and pool basketball.

The following day was a scorcher so once we purchased some suncream we were ready to hit the beach. It was gorgeous! The sand wasn´t as fine as Cayo Coco, but the sea was just as inviting. Our hotel owned a section of the beach, which, had parasols and a beach bar on it. All the Germans and Canadians had taken the palm shades, so we pulled two loungers under a real tree and enjoyed the benefits of a beach side bar. We stayed there for quite some time, dipping in and out of the cooling waters. It got dark and clouded over by around half three, so we moved back into the pool area. We had a couple of drinks poolside and munched on pizza in the pizzeria.

It was then time for more pool bar drinks. By this time we were well on our way and befriended an old Ukrainian couple, Tanya and Vladimir. We sheltered from the lashing rain and annoyed the Ukrainians for a while, even trying our hand at learning Russian. I could feel my hangover starting already so we made a dash back to the safety of our room.

The following day was much of the same activities. We´ve no photos from Varadero really, because both our cameras´ memory cards were full at this stage. Sorry! Just imagine any resort in the world, and you´ll have an idea of what it´s like.
