What I did
We walked quite a lot today, starting off with a 3 1/2 km stroll from mid-town down to Greenwich Village for our Greenwich Village food tour. We met up with our group at 11:30, our guide, Kurt, introduced himself, he also introduced all of the group members to each other. We started off with a slice of fresh cooked pizza each, then moved on to an olive oil shop. At each location we visited, we were given background information about each of the foods we were eating and the history of the place. Kurt was an entreating, funny and knowledgeable guide - he had plenty of jokes and gossip about the goings on in and around the Village. We then moved on to a little bakery, a traditional Italian style trattoria and a bar/restaurant, where we were treated to tastings of three different meals (and the opportunity to purchase a cocktail if we wanted - the mojitos were excellent). We finished off with a visit to a cheese shop, followed up by a cannoli each. This finished the tour and we were all much more knowledgeable about the area and its food. We were also much fuller.
After the tour finished, Deborah and I did a bit more shopping, finishing up walking an awful long way. Tea was at a very pleasant Thai restaurant which also happened to make excellent mojitos! How fortunate. We racked up a lot of km today - most of it on foot. As I write, Deborah is snoring on the bed.
