the next big beer town in Bohemia, Czech, is Cesky Bud, famous for the original Budwiser beer, located another two hours south of Plzen. After sleeping in a truck stop the night before about an hour out of the town, we drove into the old town (yep, cobbled stones, large square, but no church shock horror!) we parked in the square along with several other cars, next to the pay and display machine. after walking around the square for no more than 15 minutes we returned to our car to see it clamped, along with all the other cars in the area. our parking was still paid for another 30minutes, and there were no signs anywhere saying it was no parking. The police must have been doing the rounds on a clamping mission, and were about to drive back around the square to get the newcomers parked around us. rachel ran over and stood in front of their car like a mad woman screaming at them to stop. neither of the officers spoke english (seriously!?) and all they kept saying was “niet” which we assumed meant no parking, which was stupid.there was no sign. it didnt matter that they didnt understand us, we still proclaimed innocence, pointing to our paid parking reciept, eventually, they unclamped the volvo and we are able to drive off. I guess it was easier to do that than listen to us whinging. success!
we never made it to the beer factory here after all that, and drove on to Cesky Krumlov down the road.
