the drive from Lituania to Wroclaw was long, we stopped in a truck stop just outside Warsaw for the night before continuing our journey down. We considered stopping at Krakow too, but didnt have the time. we checked into our first hostel of the trip in Wroclaw, just out of the old town. It was fantastic to have a bed to sleep in and clean private showers and toilets!
We walked around the old town for a bit before settling on one of the restaurants to have dinner and a few drinks in, again we picked a cheesy touristy one. it claimed to make its own beer (tick) and the waitresses dressed in traditional dress (tick) and the menu used the words “authentic” and “traditional” (tick). the food did not dissapoint. Barry had an amazing potato pancake served with goulash, and rachel ordered dumplings. we also tried the beer- 5 liters of it! Barry wasnt too keen on getting it, well, he pretended not to want it, but the idea of having a 5 liter keg sitting on the table with dinner was far too fun to turn down. the beer was really nice, sweeter than what we usually drink, and it went down a treat. It was Barrys first beer in weeks, so it was well deserved. We made an obligotary stop at the irish pub on the way home, and ordered a pint, before passing out on the big fluffy mattress in the hostel.
