19/05/07 - Cimarron (again) - Played 18 holes with Doug Ward from Vancouver, Washington. A nice chap, who likes the ladies in Vegas and the only person I've met, whose surname I've got to know. He lives in Palm Springs for 6 months in every year and has played golf with Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk in the Las Vegas Invitational, Summerlin City in Nevada. His most embarrassing moment, he said, had to be when his backside was filmed by ESPN, when he was on his stomach trying to recover a golf ball from the edge of a lake. Watching him with hands on hips were Woods, Furyk and "Fluff" - " What the fxxx are you doing?", asked Tiger. I wasn't sure whether to believe him or not but as I got to know him better I heard no reasons to think he was "fibbing".
Anyway, we played some golf and eventually we were allowed to play through a six ball. (They allow that over here) He took the money (25 cents!). We shared a beer and agreed to organise a game for the following morning @ 11.20pm.

Decided to spend the afternoon sunning myself by the pool. I lasted one hour, really boring. Should have got a book, put on some sun-screen and do what the ladies do - read by the pool - yeah right!
"Whatever gets you off, dude"(they actually say that over here, it's not just Hollywood talk!)

So you may have guessed, that I'm staying in Palm Springs for another week. I've decided that everything I want is here; it's hot (110 degrees today), dry and beautiful, with golf, shops and restaurants around every corner. There is no other location like it on earth. Many are close but overall not close enough. If it weren't for the immigration laws and the people, I'd stay here and be happy to call Palm Springs "home". But these are major issues when deciding on a place to rest, so I guess my search continues.

20/05/07 - Cimarron
- Teed-off as arranged with Doug @ 11.20. A guy named George joined us and then on the 4th another guy called Kevin made up our fourball. Play was slow coz there was a charity ladies competition ahead of us. I saw a girl with two prosthetic legs playing golf (how brave is that?) and also one of the ladies was Cameron Diaz. A got a distant and fleeting glimpse. (See photo - she looked a bit skinny to me!)
If you "google" her whereabouts on 20th May 2007 you'll find she was playing golf in Palm Springs. But what it won't say is that, "behind her @ Cimarron GC, was Michael Barratt from England, an ex-accountant and drunk (not an alcoholic, coz they attend meetings) now fully recovered via an intense 3 month self-imposed rehab program".
(One of the benefits of having an "addictive personality" is that I can poke fun at myself and everyone else can join in, without fear of insult)

Doug left after nine, complaining of a bad back, which left me with, real estate mogul, "big fat" George and lead guitarist & trucker, Kevin. I had no time for George coz he insisted on telling us where he wanted his next shot to go and how he would do it, but it never worked out that way! And it was always some extraneous event, which caused this anomaly and not his "LOFT" (Lack of Fxxxxxx Talent).
Kevin on the other hand knew his limitations and always blamed his "LOFT" for errant shots. As for me, I didn't say anything, being a shy and reserved type of guy, I just relied on my golf to do the talking. Which was so good today, that I was very surprised and at the same time disappointed, that Miss Diaz didn't hear about it and come back out to watch me play my final holes!
