03/05/07 Palm Springs to Death Valley (316 miles) - Set off from Palm Springs @ 9.30 and reached Furnace Creek by 15.30. (by the way Palm Springs has the biggest wind farm in the world)
I arrived at "Death Valley Rd" in the South entrance to the "park", at a place called "Baker", but DV itself doesn't really start until you drive a further 105 miles north, with nothing and nobody along the way! It really is remote! But in typical US fashion they built this resort called "Furnace Creek" It has a hotel, a motel, a ranch, a general store, several restaurants and........wait for it.... a golf course! At 214 ft below sea level I'm guaranteed my lowest ever round! At $67.50 it's not cheap (after 12th May only $30!) and I guess it's not going to be the best, but I just have to do it - tomorrow.
And, just in case you are thinking I've arrived too soon, please be mindful that, because of the heat, my RV insurance does not cover me in Death Valley anytime between mid-May and September.

04/05/07 - Death Valley Road Trip
- Death Valley itself is only a 30 miles drive but it's 100 miles in and 100 miles out! The drive out was magnificent. Travelling from below sea level up through mountains at 5000ft and down again through valley floors and ending up at the base of the snow capped Sierra Nevada Mountains. But before that I had my Death Valley game @ Furnace Creek GC and shot 79 not brilliant and neither was the course but I was expecting the latter.
Writing this at 1.30pm Friday 4th May from a Comfort Inn Car Park in a town called "Lone Pine". No idea how far I'll get today but I'm heading for Yosemite NP.
