28/04/07 - Escena ("Es Seena") GC - Still in Palm Springs but a different course and the first course to be built in Palm Springs for over 20 years.
Played 36 holes - am with Jay (Ohio) nice guy and the first person of a similar age that could actually play the game! (But he couldn't take photographs -looks like I'm about to "let one out")
In the afternoon, after 7 holes joined up with Larry and Woody (Canada). The latter could really hit a ball and would let everyone know it!
Hottest April day since 1992 @ 106 degrees F and only 7% humidity.

29/04/07 - Cimarron GC -
The least enjoyable game so far, not because of the quality of my golf but the quality of my fellow "golfers".
The first guy (Thomas) wearing a T-shirt outside his shorts, couldn't play the game and had an annoying laugh. The kinda of guy who "once got an eagle on this hole" and proceeded to tell me how he did it! He was trying a new swing, which was his excuse for all the bad shots. I didn't have the heart to tell him to try something else.
The second guy (Ryan) was a graphic designer. An "addict" who had just got a job over the weekend. He decided to treat himself to a game of golf, rented some clubs and ended up with me! He called everybody a "dude" and was in need of some "gear" but for this round his 12 pack would have to do! He was as "pissed as a fart" by the 16th and proceeded to leave the course on the next hole without a "buy or leave". Full of shit and a sponger!
I decided to go for a "replay" in the afternoon and was waiting every shot behind a three-ball of young lads, all being caddied by their fathers. At one stage I had to wait 15 minutes whilst one of them searched for his ball:
Next hole:
Me - "Hey guys, you know, you should have let us through there?"
Father - "Why, it's backed up ahead"
Me - "That's not the point, it's about manners and etiquette, which quite frankly you appear to know little about" (how British did that sound?)
Father - "What?"
I didn't bother repeating myself. After all, it's not worth arguing with "tossers" who will be forever ignorant!
What made the afternoon bearable was the young lad (Keenan) and his mother (Joyce - who was driving the cart), from Temecula, San Diego,CA. He was very polite and had a great swing (albeit he was a "typically dissatisfied with his game" teenager) and his mother was very elegant and loquacious (look it up!)
Overall it was a bad day on the links.
"Black Angus" Steakhouse, a bottle of wine, "Along came Polly", and then bed.

30/04/07 - Desert Dunes GC -
Reminds me of Royal Lytham. Two rounds again and much more enjoyable. Gary and Clare from LA offered to put me up if I'm in their area. Doug from Canada offered me $250 for my driver (cost $200). Strangely, he thought that the driver alone was the only reason why I was hitting the ball 50 yards further than he was! I suggested it could be a combination of strength, age, technique, timing, and club. He seemed quite an intelligent guy but dismissed all the reasons I had proposed, other than the club.
However, by the end of the round I think he had reconciled in his mind that maybe I was right; I still have the driver!

Back Nine
Well half way round. At the rate of travel you will have time to get back to the start, not sure if the RV will make the trip though. Seems to be going well and you are either not washing or the photos are showing a good tan. Glad you did not fight the goy for the twelve pack! Travel and golf sounds great.
