18/04/07 - From the "Arches" of Moab to the "Gates" of Zion (389 miles). Woke early to the sounds of a "hurricane!". Winds up to 60mph.
Now, if you like walking, you could spend a week in the "Arches".So my visit of 2 hours didn't quite do it justice. However, I saw enough to get the feel and say "I've been there" and quite honestly, I was a little dissapointed, especially when compared to Monument Valley. And, if you ever get here, my advice would be to arrive late afternoon or early evening when the light and colours are at their best.
Anyway, I decided to make haste and get to Zion. The drive of nearly 400 miles was the worst since Newark to DC. Let's just say I've had enough of cold mountains and 8000ft above sea level. I need warmth! Let's face it I could have gone to the north if I wanted snow!
At 6.30 (or 5.30?) I found a campground just outside Zion with all the facilities and a price to match! Early evening sun and modest winds (bliss!). The "Grill" is open so I'm off.
